Call for Posters | Poster Specifications

The poster sessions will be held in the Exhibition Hall area throughout the day on Monday and Tuesday, October 27 and 28, and featured at the Wednesday evening reception. We request that the authors of selected posters be available to present, explain, and discuss their work during the morning and afternoon breaks, and during the evening reception.

Content of Poster:
The poster display should include a statement of the problem, objectives of the research or project, the methodology used to solve the problem or implement the program, the major findings or outcomes and their significance, and conclusions. The poster should represent a logical sequence, introduction, development, and conclusions. A heading should be prepared for your presentation using lettering at least 1 1/2 inches high and should include the title of the poster, all authors' names, and institutional affiliations. Your poster session abstract should appear in the top left-hand corner of the poster board.

General Guidelines:

Viewing distance: Lettering should be simple, bold, and easily legible from a distance of four to six feet.

Subsections: Subsections of the posters as outlined above should be arranged from left to right to facilitate easy reading.

Use of graphs, models, and enlarged pictures: Visuals may enhance the effectiveness of your presentation. Think in terms of graphic impact. Charts, drawings, photographs, and other illustrations are encouraged.

Amount of information: Keep the details to a minimum. Resist the urge to include everything. A good comprehensive abstract should be viewed within five minutes or less. It is a tidy, readable, and appealing poster that will attract viewers. You may want to provide a sign-up sheet to record the names and addresses of attendees who might wish more information, reprints, etc.

Size limitation: Space is limited; posters must be no larger than 3 feet wide x 4 feet high (VERTICAL LAYOUT).

Resources: Regular poster board is the most common material used for posters. Poster material should be sturdy, capable of standing erect on an easel. Posters may be mounted on foam core board. Book and art stores carry a variety of boards with different size, color, and texture. Avoid too bright, too light, or too dark colors unless contrasting lettering is used.

Display Information:
All materials to be displayed should be prepared before you arrive. Poster boards will be displayed on easels throughout the day on Monday and Tuesday, October 27 and 28, and during the reception on Monday evening. The conference committee prefers that you provide your own easel for poster display; however, easels will be available if requested in advance for a nominal charge. Presenters may set up their poster presentations on Sunday, October 26, between 2:00 and 8:00 p.m., or between 7:00 and 7:15 a.m. on Monday morning, October 27.

Review Criteria
Posters accepted for display will be entered into a judged competition. Awards will be given out at the evening reception on Monday, October 27, 2008. Judging will be based upon the following criteria:
        *  Overall aesthetic quality, clarity of presentation
            and general appearance
        *  Information content
        *  Handouts
        *  Helpfulness of presenter
        *  Overall interest and relevance

PRESENTATIONS that promote the sales of products or service will not be selected.
